Play at PYCP

Play is an important part of our history, with roots going back to Pilton Adventure Play Association in the 1980s. We believe that play is vital for children’s emotional development and mental health. Our staff team are trained in a range of approaches including inclusive play and offer opportunities for children aged 5 to 11 to learn through messy, sensory, loose parts and outdoor play. Our play provision is also a safe setting where younger children can enjoy spending time with friends and benefit from a supportive and nurturing environment.

2019 brought an exciting new development in our play provision; our “PYCP Adventurers” Project. This is funded by Children in Need for 3 years and uses outdoor and adventurous play to help children aged 8 to 12 develop a safer approach to risk, as well as developing team work skills, confidence and resilience. Some of the activities the Adventurers have taken part in so far include using tools safely to carve pumpkins for Halloween and making bird feeders, fire safety with the local fire station,  outdoor cooking, using flint and steel sets to make fires, foraging wild blackberries and making juice, scavenger hunts and much more! Following the success of this, our younger children have also enjoyed a range of outdoor adventures, such as beastie hunts and den building.
